Working principle of the engine
Intake stroke: The piston moves downward, the intake valve opens, and clean air filtered by the air filter enters the cylinder. At the same time, the fuel injector sprays a certain amount of high-pressure atomized diesel into the cylinder according to the working conditions of the engine to form a combustible mixture with the air.
Compression stroke: The piston moves upward, the intake valve and the exhaust valve are closed, the combustible mixture is compressed, the volume is reduced, and the temperature and pressure rise rapidly. The compression ratio of the Volvo TAD620VE engine is 18.4:1. The high compression ratio makes the mixture reach a very high temperature at the end of compression, creating conditions for the spontaneous combustion of diesel.
Power stroke: When the compression stroke is close to the end, the diesel reaches the ignition point and begins to burn, the mixture burns violently, the volume expands rapidly, and high-temperature and high-pressure gas is produced, which pushes the piston downward, and transmits the thrust to the crankshaft through the connecting rod, so that the crankshaft rotates and outputs mechanical energy to the outside. In this stroke, the chemical energy of the fuel is converted into heat energy, and then into mechanical energy.
Exhaust stroke: The piston moves upward, the exhaust valve opens, and the burned exhaust gas is pushed out of the cylinder, preparing for the intake of the next cycle.
