To ensure a long-lasting and reliable engine, the key lies in proper daily habits and timely, regular maintenance. Paying attention to some simple details of car use can effectively prevent many common problems.
Good Daily Driving Habits
**Drive Gently After a Cold Start:** During a cold start, the engine oil hasn't fully lubricated the engine. Aggressively accelerating at this time can exacerbate cylinder wear and even risk cylinder scoring. It's recommended to drive smoothly after starting and wait for the engine to warm up before normal driving.
**Add the Right Fuel, Don't Overfill:** Always use the octane rating specified in your vehicle's manual. Otherwise, it may cause engine knocking and damage. Also, if you fill the tank to the brim after the pump clicks off, it may damage the fuel evaporation control system, causing the malfunction indicator lamp to illuminate.
**Avoid Ramping the Engine in Turbocharged Cars:** Ramping the engine while stationary, especially when the engine is cold, can easily cause the turbocharger to leak oil, resulting in wear.
**Be Careful When Parking:** The catalytic converter operates at extremely high temperatures (up to 400°C). Avoid parking on dry grass, dry leaves, or other flammable materials to prevent fires.
