The Cummins 6BTA5.9 marine diesel engine is proven and has high power density. Its powerful transient response across the entire rpm range is made possible by the turbocharger. The Cummins XPI fuel system delivers precise quantities of fuel at ultra-high pressure. With powerful electronic engine control, it can flexibly adjust injection timing to maximize fuel economy and performance while minimizing exhaust emissions.
Stage V is Europe's most stringent emissions regulation. Nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are set at an extremely low level of 0.4 g/kW-hr, requiring the use of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) aftertreatment. Particulate matter (PM) emissions are limited to 0.015 g/kW-hr, plus a new particle number (PN) count that effectively eliminates 99.9% of PM. To achieve near-zero levels, a diesel particulate filter is required. Cummins' exhaust aftertreatment system includes DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst), DPF and SCR technology in a two-piece unit designed to be easily installed into the engine compartment with good service access.
