The Cummins 6CTA8.3 marine diesel engine is an "inline 6 cylinder" using a "Bosch or Nippon Denso" mechanical inline injection pump, has a displacement of 8.3 liters or 504 cubic inches (1.38 liters per cylinder), one-piece cylinder heads, 2 valves per cylinder, aborted wet liners, is very easy to rebuild, the overall design is very simple, the entire structure is strong, and it can be used in many demanding industrial markets in addition to marine.

The basic internal structure is very strong, which has enabled the marine sector to develop a variety of reliable higher HP grades according to the needs of different markets.
